Founder and Creative Principal :: Blue Ink Syndicate

Stephen Fishwick is a founder and creative principal of Blue Ink Syndicate – an entertainment company providing live performance art and show production, interactive media design, web marketing, branding strategy and digital film production.

Stephen Fishwick knew he wanted to be an artist at the age of seven. However, once his mother explained to him the perils of life as a starving artist, he simply stated, “Then I guess I’ll just be Spiderman.” After the likelihood of that reality settled in, Stephen returned his heart to art and took his first formal painting class at age ten. It was his art in high school that first earned him accolades. With the persistence of his senior-year art teacher, he prepared a strong portfolio; fine enough to open the doors for him to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburg. Less than a year later, he started working as a professional artist, drawing caricatures and illustrations.

“Everyday I fall in love with drawing the human face and form,” he says. “My sketchbooks are filled with drawings of life, from people to animals.”

In 1996, Stephen began expanding his artistic education beyond caricatures by studying traditional drawing and painting under Jeff Watts at the Watts Atelier of the Arts, in Southern California. Where, he is now currently an instructor as well as a student.

After plying his trade in art professionally for more than two decades and years of drawing live caricatures, Stephen founded Splash! Paint in Motion, his brand of a live performance art form known as speed painting. Splash! Paint in Motion was a natural extension of his talent and passion. His goal is always to share with the crowd, the electric euphoria that he gets from painting live on stage and his hope is to ignite that natural creative spirit in each of us.

In 2005, Mr. Fishwick began a creative partnership with Southern California digital filmmakers and interactive media designers Christina Grenard and James G. Williams. He asked them to produce his idea of a live art show called Splash! Paint in Motion that would feature his dynamic live portraits of icons such as the Statue of Liberty, Ray Charles and Bono from U2. The team of Grenard and Williams also focused their digital film, interactive marketing and design skills to create the Splash! brand, online presence and marketing campaign.

In a creative expansion of business structure, Mr. Fishwick linked a collective of over 200 independent performance artists joining his company Artists Ink and the Ambient Blue Creative Corporation to form the Blue Ink Syndicate with co-founders Christina Grenard and James G. Williams. This new company offers clients a single source for booking artists, creating marketing campaigns, and production of videos, websites and live event productions.

Most recently, Mr. Fishwick co-produced and starred in Splash! Animals – a live art experience that premiered at the World Famous San Diego Zoo on June 23, 2007 featuring his dynamic portraits of animal faces.

Internationally, Stephen has traveled to Paraguay, South America; teaching the Guadanyan Indians how to draw caricatures so they could eventually become self-supporting. Over the past sixteen years he has trained and developed numerous artists in drawing portraits and caricatures in a quick-sketch style at every major theme park in the United States. Through it all he has maintained a key leadership role with Kaman’s Art Shoppes, Inc., an unrivalled company in the industry.

Stephen’s business experience also includes nearly two decades of producing artwork for corporate America. His professional clients include Volkswagen, Petco, the San Diego Padres, Anheuser-Busch, Legoland, the San Antonio Spurs, Microsoft, Samsung, Coca Cola, Honda, and Jenny Craig just to name a few.

Blue Ink Syndicate’s partial client list includes Anheuser-Busch Companies, Microsoft, Disney, Coca-cola, QUALCOMM, Volkswagen, Hyatt Hotels, and State Farm.

What’s In a Name?
Blue Ink Syndicate is a combination of the founders former companies. The name takes the “Blue” from Ambient Blue Creative and the “Ink” from Artists Ink. Syndicate represents the many artists they collaborate and represent.
